Rosa Mystica Altar Cloth

£15.00

This one-of-a-kind altar cloth was created using botanical dye from roses, camellias and daffodils/gorse as part of the process I use for making rosaries. The painting on this cloth was inspired by the Rosa Mystica - a symbol associated with Mother Mary, Mary Magdalene and the lineage of the divine feminine.

Process:

The altar cloths are lovingly made using a slow, intentional process. First, I choose the roses, or they are given to me out of love, and I set them in my altars and they become part of my sacred space. The roses for this altar cloth were infused with love from women’s circles I held in March 2025, the camellias are from my garden and the daffodils and gorse are from Cornwall.

I go on pilgrimages to collect sacred well water - for this altar cloth, I used water from St Keyne’s Well, my local sacred water source. I blend the rose petals with the well water, before purifying the pulp using gentle heat.

Once cooled, I drain the pulp of liquid multiple times and it is this gorgeous liquid that I used to hand dye and paint the cloth. The multi-colours in this piece come from five different batches of dye. The altar cloth then is allowed to air dry to allow the colours to infuse into the fabric.

The altar cloth is 52cm square and is infused with the energy of the divine feminine and makes a beautiful addition to your sacred space.

NB: Please do not get the altar cloth wet as this might impact the natural colour of the dye. Spot clean only.
